Michael Bates’s Biography

The son of an Anglo-Indian civil servant, he was born in Jhansi, a city at the time belonging to British India, but now only Indian.

Member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1948 to 1953, he began his film career in 1951 and continued until 1977, shortly before his death, arrived in 1978, a month after he turned 57, for a cancer.

Among the roles he interpreted, one should remember that of the guard in A Clockwork Orange (1971).
