Josh Radnor’s Biography

Radnor was born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 29, 1974, to a Jewish family, son of Alan Radnor, a lawyer specializing in medical malpractice, and to Carol Hirsch, a school orientation counselor. He has two sisters, Melanie and Joanna. Raised in Bexley, a small town not far from Columbus, he receives from the family a religious education, linked to the dictates of Masoretic Judaism, and attends Jewish schools.After graduating from Bexley High School, he enrolled at Kenyon College, where he graduated with a B.A. in 1996, and from which he will then receive the Paul Newman Award for being one of the most famous students of the institute. Subsequently, he obtained a master’s degree in dramatic art from the Graduate Acting Program of the Tisch School of the Arts, at New York University, in 1999.

In 2001 he was cast for the role of Mike Platt, one of the protagonists of the short life sit-com Off Center, but, even before the airing of the pilot episode, the role is reassigned to Eddie Kaye Thomas. In 2002 he made his Broadway debut in the theater adaptation of Mike Nichols graduate, replacing Jason Biggs in the role that was Dustin Hoffman, alongside Kathleen Turner and Alicia Silverstone, while in 2004 he performed in The Paris Letter, where he shares the scene with Neil Patrick Harris (his future colleague in How I Met Your Mother).

In 2005 he gets the role that makes him known to the general public, that of architect Ted Mosby in the successful sitcom How I Met Your Mother. The series ended in March 2014, after 9 seasons.

He made his directorial debut in 2010 with the drama comedy happythankyoumoreplease, which he also wrote and performed, which was awarded at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2012 he made his second film, Liberal Arts, focusing on a thirty-five year old graduate, played by Radnor himself, who returns to the old college for the retirement of a professor where, through various experiences, he manages to grow and become truly adult.

After taking part in the film Afternoon Delight in 2013, he stars in the drama drama Disgraced, at the Lyceum Theater on Broadway, in October 2014.
