James Woods’s Biography

Woods was born in Vernal, Utah and grew up in Warwick (Rhode Island). His father, Gail Peyton Woods, was an army intelligence officer who died in 1960 after a routine surgical operation. The mother remarried after the death of her husband. After joining the faculty of political science at MIT, he interrupted his studies in 1969 to pursue an acting career.

Her first major role is in Elia Kazan’s I (1972), but her real success comes when she stars in David Cronenberg’s sci-fi videodrome (1983), a role that allows Woods to establish itself as a charismatic interpreter. Unforgettable his interpretation of Max, in the masterpiece of Sergio Leone Once upon a time in America (1984), alongside Robert De Niro. The film tells the rise and fall of two Jewish New York gangsters, friends since childhood, separated by love for the same woman. In 1986 he recited Oliver Stone in Salvador, with James Belushi, a chronicle of the state of civil war in Salvador, in which Woods plays an American journalist.

In another episode James Woods steals the identity of Peter stealing his wallet with the related documents becoming in effect Peter Griffin, living in his home and wearing his clothes to such an extent that not even the friend Joe, intervened as policeman, he can drive Woods out of the Griffin house. It appears in the fifth season of the animated series The Simpsons episode 13, titled “Homer and Apu”, in which James Woods, to identify himself with a character that will have to interpret in a film, takes the place of Apu Jet Market since the latter is fired. At the end of the episode he declares that he has to start, shortly thereafter, to fight the aliens on another planet, but by hinting, comically, that this is not at all the plot of a film.

In the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Woods lends his voice to Mike Toreno, a game character who looks a lot like his appearance and way of dressing and who is a CIA secret agent who will exploit Carl Johnson (the protagonist of the game) to make dangerous secret missions, but eventually Toreno will release Carl’s brother.
