Christopher Meloni’s Biography
Meloni is of Sardinian origin by the father and Franco-Canadian by the mother. Born in Washington, D.C., he studied at St. Stephen’s School (now St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School) and at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he began to study acting for the first time, and where he graduated in 1983 in history.After graduating, Meloni went to New York, where he continued his studies with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse.
Meloni worked in construction before starting to act. He began to act at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he studied. He also worked as a bouncer, bartender and personal trainer. He is known to the general public for the role of Detective Elliot Stabler in the television series Law & amp; Order – Special Victims Unit, but has also been noted in the part of Chris Keller in the Oz series.
Meloni has appeared in numerous small TV series and in minor roles in many films, as in The 12 Monkey Army. His first noteworthy role is that of a hot head, the son of a mobster, in the thriller Bound – Torbido Deception (1996), and he also appeared alongside Julia Roberts in the film Se scappi, ti sposa.
In 1998 he played a small part in the film by Terry Gilliam Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, playing a short but significant scene with Johnny Depp.
But the first real moment of glory and success comes with the interpretation of the controversial bisexual sociopathic character Chris Keller, in the television series Oz. In 1999, joking, he and his colleague Lee Tergesen (the actor who plays Tobias Beecher, his lover in Oz) kissed each other during the GLAAD Media Awards. The creator and producer of Law & amp; Order Dick Wolf, impressed by Meloni’s acting ability, made him sign a contract for the Law & amp; series. Order – Special victims unit, where he worked until the twelfth season.
In 2012 he participates in some episodes of the fifth season of the television series True Blood, in the role of the powerful vampire Roman Zimojic.

Meloni is married to production designer Sherman Williams. They live in New York and Los Angeles; they have two children: Sophia Eva Pietra (2001), and Dante Amadeo (2004).
