Andrew Roy Gibb (Manchester, March 5, 1958 – Oxford, March 10, 1988) was a British singer.

He was the younger brother of Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, better known as the Bee Gees. He died on March 10, 1988, just 30 years old, due to heart problems.

Andy Gibb’s Biography

Andy has preferred his solo career, although he has always enjoyed the support of his three older brothers, who launched him. For his own choice, he never wanted to officially become part of the Bee Gees, despite repeated invitations from the brothers. He liked to sing like his brother Barry Gibb, who wrote and produced his records.

In his short career he sold over 10 million copies of records, placing consecutive singles between the years 1977 and 1978 three singles in first place in the US charts. He participated in 1979 in the Tour Spirit 79. In 1988, just when he was almost deciding to join the group, he died suddenly due to a myocarditis.

She had a relationship with actress Victoria Principal and a daughter, Peta Gibb, who lives in Australia.

Death

Curiously, in his song Arrow through the Heart he seems almost to presage his premature death (I’m too young to die – I’m too young to die). Andy was going to England to record and was also changing his home to move from his brother Robin to Thame in Oxfordshire.

He began to drink a lot and feel sick. On March 7, 1988, Andy went to the “John Radcliffe” Hospital in Oxford to be examined, as he was suffering from severe stomach pains. Three days later, on the morning of March 10, Andy Gibb will die only 30 years old, due to an inflammation of the myocardium due to a viral infection. The years of alcoholism and cocaine abuse did not seem to be a direct cause of his death, but they certainly did not help him and certainly aggravated his clinical picture. His body was taken to Los Angeles, California and was buried in the cemetery of the stars, the Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills Cemetery.

The Bee Gees composed Wish You Were Here (I wish you were here) as a tribute to the dead brother. The song was launched in 1989 with absolute success in Brazil, occupying the 2nd position among the best-selling singles.
